SURFACE TENSION, Utah State University College of Life Sciences, completed December 2018.
23 feet high x 17 feet wide, depth varies from 12 to 42 inches. 534 unique cast and laminated glass ‘drops’, powder coated aluminum cladding, internal LED light, steel structure.

Surface Tension deploys cast glass to evoke the materiality of water... water, because there is no biological system without it and it is therefore crucial to the study of life sciences. The glass mimics water in three ways: structure – water drop sizes and shapes were analyzed and used as the basis for casting; effect – glass chill marks and light refraction create watery light; image – images of life developed with college faculty can be found by intrepid observers in some of the drops.
